Swim

SPRINT- The swim will leave the main beach at the Ladies Slip and head in the direction of the first buoy, approx. 200m from shore. Competitors will then turn left and swim parallel to the shore to the next buoy marker for approx. 350m where they will then turn left again for the remaining 200m back to shore. The course is set out in a rectangular pattern with start/finish area side by side.

OLYMPIC - The swim will leave the main beach at the Mens Slip and head in the direction of the first buoy, approx. 350m from shore. Competitors will then turn left and swim parallel to the shore to the next buoy marker for approx. 800m where they will then turn left again for the remaining 350m back to shore. The course is set out in a rectangular pattern with start/finish area side by side.

Bike

HELMETS ARE COMPULSORY

On leaving the transition area there is a short exit road before joining the main road, there will be marshals at every junction, you must obey the marshals at all times on the road and normal rules of the road apply. The roads are open to traffic so stay on the left only pass when it is safe to do so.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Distances are in Kilometres from the start and are approximate. The course is a loop with Olympic competitors completing 2 laps.

Competitors will exit transition and turn right onto Riverstown Rd. towards the GAA grounds (approx. 1.5km). Just past the GAA grounds there is a roundabout which will be controlled by marshals. They will be taking the 3rd exit which is signposted Waterford.

A further 750 metres along this road they will encounter another roundabout, again this will be controlled by marshals. They will proceed straight through this roundabout in the direction of Waterford. The remaining 6 km to the turnabout point is a Main road with minor undulations. The surface is excellent and there is a substantial “hard shoulder” for cyclists.

At the “Tramore Roundabout”, located approximately 8km from transition, the competitors will turn left and onto the dual carraigeway in the direction of Butlerstown roundabout. There will be marshals located at all roundabouts to ensure safety at all times. Competitors will then turn left at Butlerstown roundabout and out towards Orchardstown cross. here they will turn left anfd begin the journey back to Tramore.

Run

Competitors will leave transition and head westwards towards the main Promenade. The first 1 km is along the pedestrian Promenade up to the “Ladies Slip”. At this juncture the competitors will descend onto the beach front and run eastwards for approx. 2km along the shore line as far as the sand dunes. Just prior to the sand dunes, which is the half way point the competitors will be directed westwards back up along the raised ridge which separates the front beach from the back strand.Oly,pic distance competitors will complete 2 laps.

Attention should be drawn to the fact that the run leg includes a large section on the beach front. This may initial small amounts of soft sand and loose stone that may require extra attention. The run course must be fully completed. There will also be a water station provided along the route just prior to the halfway point.

Relay teams must pass timing chi
p from swim to bike to run.

The Finish

The finish area will be immediately outside the Surf Centre.
